Specialist Helifix Remedial Works Throughout London

London Brickwork Repointing provides specialist Helifix remedial works for cracked masonry, failing wall ties and structurally compromised brickwork throughout London and the Home Counties. With over 35 years of experience working on period and heritage properties, our team carries out Helifix crack stitching and wall tie replacement using approved stainless steel systems that stabilise masonry while preserving the original appearance of the building.

Helifix systems offer a minimally invasive solution for a wide range of structural masonry problems. Rather than resorting to disruptive or expensive rebuilding, Helifix reinforcement can stabilise and repair cracked or failing brickwork from within the wall — leaving the external appearance largely undisturbed.

What Are Helifix Remedial Works?

Helifix is a system of helically wound stainless steel bars and fixings designed for the repair and reinforcement of masonry structures. The bars are inserted into small-diameter holes drilled into the mortar joints and bonded in place with specialist resin or grout. Once installed, they are largely invisible from the exterior of the building.

The system is widely specified by structural engineers, conservation architects and local authorities for remedial works on period and listed buildings because it is effective, durable and minimally invasive.

When Are Helifix Remedial Works Required?

Structural Cracks

Cracks caused by settlement, subsidence or thermal movement can be stabilised using Helifix crack stitching bars installed across the crack line.

Failed Wall Ties

Corroded or failed wall ties in cavity wall construction can be replaced with stainless steel Helifix remedial ties without removing the external brickwork.

Bulging Brickwork

Walls that have begun to bow or bulge due to wall tie failure or loss of structural integrity can be restrained using Helifix fixing systems.

Lintel Failures

Cracking above doors and windows caused by failed or corroded lintels can be addressed using Helifix reinforcement systems.

Chimney Stabilisation

Leaning or cracked chimneys can be reinforced and stabilised using Helifix systems to avoid full rebuilding.

Listed Buildings

Helifix is widely approved for use on listed and conservation area buildings where invasive repair methods are not permitted.

Why Choose London Brickwork Repointing?

Frequently Asked Questions

What causes cracks in brickwork?
Cracks in brickwork can be caused by a variety of factors including thermal movement, settlement, subsidence, failed wall ties, corroded lintels and tree root activity. We carry out a full assessment to identify the cause before recommending any works.
Is Helifix suitable for listed buildings?
Yes. Helifix systems are widely approved for use on listed and conservation area buildings because they are minimally invasive and do not require the removal or replacement of original brickwork. They are regularly specified by conservation architects and structural engineers.
Will Helifix works be visible on the outside of my building?
In most cases, the only visible evidence of Helifix works is the repointed mortar joints where the bars have been installed. When repointing is matched carefully to the surrounding brickwork, the works are virtually invisible.
Do I need a structural engineer’s report before Helifix works?
For significant structural cracking we recommend obtaining a structural engineer’s report. We can carry out works to an engineer’s specification and provide full documentation on completion for insurance and mortgage purposes.
Do you provide documentation after Helifix works?
Yes. We provide full records of all Helifix works carried out, which can be used for insurance, mortgage and planning authority purposes.
Do you provide free quotations?
Yes. We provide free site surveys and quotations throughout London and the Home Counties.
